Ned is a civil engineer and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP). He works with our Freight Rail project teams to fully integrate elements of sustainability and resiliency, blending his talent as a railroad project engineer and his passion for sustainable infrastructure. Ned’s more than a decade of transportation design experience includes about nine years with HDR, starting, incidentally, with our Highways and Local Roads group in Bellevue, Washington. One of the exciting rail projects to which Ned is currently contributing is Union Pacific’s transformative Chicago to St. Louis High Speed Rail project. He also helped lead rail design for Colorado’s first commuter rail network, the Eagle P3 project. He hopes to inspire an appreciation for transportation and sustainability throughout the industry and among the next generation of engineers through his work as a member of the Education and Training Committee of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).
Ned’s love of the natural world and transportation transcends working hours. He and his wife frequently enjoy hiking and biking along the bluffs of the Missouri and Platte rivers around Omaha. He has one son, who turns 3 in 2017, and a daughter who will turn 1. Ned has mentored with Omaha area schools since 2012.
