Check out the Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine. The notebook allows you to sketch and take notes by hand, and then use the Evernote Page Camera to make those notebook pages digital, instantly transferring them to all your digital devices. The best of both worlds!

I don't know whether this is something I love because I am a designer, or if I'm a designer because this is something I love. No matter.

I have been using Evernote user for the past year and a half and I love, Love, L-O-V-E it. It helps me keep my information available when I need it most wherever I need it—my smartphone, my laptop, my desktop—no more making and losing notes.

But I must say, I miss my sketchy notes… typing just isn’t the same. I have always been a total glutton for paper, pens, pencils, and anything I can use to express my thoughts visually. There's something about being able to work out the ideas from the brain to the hand to the paper. Cathartic really. But carrying around volumes of sketchbooks is impractical, and frankly I fill them up quickly, and as forgetful as I am leave them behind when I need them most.

Late last year I tried the SmartPen, but it required that I use a specific pen to do my sketching or note taking... no dice.  I love my Sharpie and my fountain pens. The digital pen was just too restrictive. I need to be able to use color, to use fat pens, skinny pens, whatever I have on hand that suits the thought or idea, or just accepts whatever is available and convenient… The Evernote Smart Notebook is definitely something that will be on my wish list this year.
